Winch Cat Action

In May 2013, we purchased a winch cat. What is a winch cat? Well, there are our regular snowcats, with tracked wheels and blades that enable them to go pretty much anywhere then there is our new winch cat. We use the newly acquired winch cat to build our steepest roads. The winch cat is equipped with a huge winch that houses a spool of several hundred meters of braided steel cable and a steel boom. The winch pays out cable from the cat by sometimes anchoring to large rocks or trees or in some case we need to anchor to another snowcat. This new machine was put to good use this year. We’ve had the opportunity to test its capabilities and are amazed at the terrain it’s enabled us to get to! Here are a couple full size photos of our winch cat in action.
